Exploring the Genius of Nature

Tapping into 3.8 Billion Years of Wisdom

Suzanne Simard is professor of forest ecology at the University of British Columbia's Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences in Vancouver, Canada. She is known for her research on mycorrhizal networks (fungi), which are characterised by underground webs of fungi that facilitate communication and interaction between trees and plants of an ecosystem.

The social "community" of forests contains scores of synergistic interactions among a dazzling array of organisms in mutual synergy. In this talk she compares this with the synergies of native American [First Nations] communities which had once been similarly integrated in 'congruency of balanced, respectful reciprocal relationships in nature' with the land and its forests.
