Venezuelan agriculture has been applauded by the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) for its efforts to eradicate hunger and achievements in food security and food sovereignty.

Protecting Food Sovereignty

'Voices from Venezuela':- urban agriculture

Venezuelan rural families have good reason to celebrate. Since January 2016, they have a new Seed Law to regulate hybrid seeds and ban transgenic seed research in their country.

The law centres around the seed’s critical role in the defense of Venezuelan independence and the quest to secure food sovereignty.

Venezuela has faced intense pressure from the U.S. aimed at politically and economically destabilisingit ever since its former President Hugo Chávez enacted the Hydrocarbons Law, in January 2002. The U.S. campaign, called the Economic War by Venezeulans, has intensified since his untimely death in 2012.
