Christopher Boyce did, in 1975, what Edward Snowden did in 2013. It got him 10 years in jail. His story was made famous by the movie, The Falcon and The Snowman.

Australia's Forgotten Coup

'The Dismissal' of Gough Whitlam - 1975

After taking office, Whitlam worked to oust the U.S. and Britain from Australian affairs, hoping to publicly expose them as undermining the integrity of the Australian nation. He also aimed to take back control of Australia's vast natural resources from foreign corporations and governments, and to close Pine Gap, the U.S. spy base that was [and still is] operating in Australia - now a part of the supra-national Five Eyes surveillance programme.
